stab proof hoodies for teens

Watching the news today i was intrigued when it came to my attention that there was now stab proof hoodies available and they could soon be part of school uniforms. I found out that they have come from a company who make protective clothing for the police and the armed forces. They are lined with kevlar which is a light but strong synthetic fibre.

I can not believe that it has actually come to this, but i do believe that it is needed considering how many school stabbings have happened recently.

I really like this idea. I agree that perhaps it is needed in worse crime areas. They have made them trendy so kids won't mind wearing them but I do wonder if kids will wear them to look cool rather than for their safety and whether they will 'try' stabbing and slashing each other as jokes to see if they work. I suppose we will have to wait and see!

a good point, however given the seriousness of the situation, i doubt it.

I to was pretty shocked to see on the news that they were making stab proof clothing for school children.

With the regards to Michelle's comment on stabbing each other i dont think there parents would be to impressed as that means another new and expensive school top. Also for some of the more underprivelaged families who possibly do live in the more crime related areas may not actually be able to afford the clothing as i have heard its not cheap. But in that news item it said that five orders had been made in that week so obviously there is a demnad for the product.

Obviously it is good that it will protect people from knife crimes. However, I think it shows poorly on today's society. Has it really come to the point where we have to walk around in stab proof clothing in everyday life?! As Holly menitoned, it may be hard for the people in under privileged areas, who actually need them, to be able to afford them as I read that they cost £65 each which is rather expensive for a jumper.
